How to wear a jumpsuit: 6 easy versatile ways

Oh mighty jumpsuit how I love thee. A style of clothing with many names: sometimes called a boiler, overall, playsuit, or romper. It’s comfortable. It’s stylish. It’s modern and kinda badass. What’s even better? It couldn’t be simpler to wear. One and done. But it’s also versatile. It can be casual, or dressy, and worn with almost any kind of shoe.

To show you just how versatile, I put together a quick hit list of 6 of my favorite ways to wear a jumpsuit. Check out the easy formulas along with some quick styling tips to help you create outfits and get the most use out of that jumpsuit in your closet.

  • Knotted Belt & Mules

Knotted Belt & Mules

I love how adding a belt can give a jumpsuit a whole new vibe. Almost giving this a blouse and pant type of look, and knotting the wide belt gives the outfit that extra zhush to take it from simple to styled. To complete the look pair it with patent leather mules for an easy, casual style. It’s simple yet effective, and one of my favorite ways to wear a jumpsuit.

Extra Style Tip: Does your belt not have enough holes to fit correctly? I always carry this tool in my stylist bag of tricks. It has saved many belts (and sandals too) from not fitting! It’s a great tool and super easy to use.

Block Heels & Bold Jewelry

This jumpsuit look is anything but basic when you add a heel and some jewelry.  Here I’ve kept the jumpsuit simple and loose, adding a chunky gold necklace and pairing it with a wide strappy block heel. I like how the jewelry and the hardware from the shoes work together, giving this look a put together yet still effortless and dressed up vibe.

Extra Style Tip: Make sure your look is proportional by matching your accessories with your footwear. If you are wearing wide straps, thick-soled, or platform shoes, wear bold and/or chunky accessories to keep your look balanced.

Oversized Blazer & Kicks

I’m not sure if you got the memo, but blazers are having a moment. The trend has been rising in the streetwear market for the last several years & it’s definitely become a closet essential with endless styling possibilities. The key to wearing it here is keeping the look relaxed, the jacket silo slightly oversized, and the footwear casual.

Monochrome Woven Belt & Slouchy Boots

I totally went in on the Top Gun vibes with this look, keeping it monochromatic with a woven belt, adding a slouchy 80’s inspired boot, and topping it off with some aviators. I love how just changing a belt and shoe can give a jumpsuit a completely different vibe.

Extra Style Tip: Make sure to keep your pants secure in your boots by folding in your pants at the hem and placing your sock over it. If you lived through the 80’s you know this tip!

Short Sleeve Jacket & Loafers

I might be slightly biased having a background in denim design, but I think it makes every outfit better! Here I’ve paired the jumpsuit with my short sleeve upcycled denim jacket. I like how wearing short sleeves over the jumpsuit gives this a carefree layered look, and adding a more structured shoe like a loafer or mule balances the outfit.

Extra Style Tip: Have fun with accessories! It can make the simplest of outfits look complete and totally change the vibe. For me, my go-to accessory is a hat, but maybe your thing will be belts, or scarves, or jewelry. Play around to find what works for you.

Long Sleeve Top & Kicks

Adding a long sleeve top underneath and rolling up the jumpsuit sleeves is a fun, easy way to rock a jumpsuit. It’s a good way to add color, print, or graphics to your look too! Here I’ve added a lace top underneath to play up the feminine vibes and wore white kicks and a headscarf to make the look more street.
